Siemens doubles income from environmental business

London, 2 July: Annual revenues from Siemens’ environmental activities grew 12% in 2008 to €18.9 billion ($26.5 billion) – almost double the rate for the business as a whole. The German engineering giant also managed a 10% improvement in its energy efficiency compared with its base year of 2006, according to its sustainability report published last month.
During 2008, the firm appointed Barbara Kux as chief sustainability officer and established a sustainability board “that will help us make better use of the opportunities offered by sustainable business”, the company said.
The 180-page report also includes information on Siemens’ compliance measures, operational and product-related environmental protection, responsible management, occupational health and safety, environmental protection in the supply chain and corporate citizenship activities.
