Evolution Markets opens biofuels desk

London, 21 December: Evolution Markets has launched a biofuels desk, which will offer brokerage and financial services to the ethanol and biodiesel industry.

Based in White Plains, New York, the Renewable Fuels Group at Evolution will provide a marketplace for ethanol and biodiesel commodity transactions, and offer transaction services to producers, end users, marketers, distributors and speculators.

But it will also move beyond those services usually offered by brokers, to help arrange the shipping of biofuels, arrange project finance, negotiate off-take agreements for producers, as well as arranging risk management.

Paul Mazzarulli will head the new group. He comes to Evolution Markets from Noble Americas, where he was manager of operations for the clean fuels group. He also has more than ten years of brokerage experience under his belt, in global energy and freight markets.

Andrew Ertel, president and chief executive of Evolution Markets, said: "Paul Mazzarulli has a unique and essential mix of experience in oil, freight and biofuel markets, which is key to bridging the sometimes wide gap between the huge amount of small- to medium-sized biofuels producers from the agricultural sectors and the ultimate end users from the oil industry."

"Our role in emerging environmental markets has always been to create efficiencies for the flow of capital, which aids in market development and ultimately benefits the environment," he added. "This is certainly our approach to the fast-growing ethanol and biodiesel markets."
