Impact project of the year - energy: Actis and Bridgin Power

Bridgin Power, a Bangladesh-based gas power generation platform established by sustainable infrastructure investor Actis under its $6 billion Energy 5 fund, has embedded community engagement into its business model through targeted local initiatives.

As well as operating a 220 MW combined-cycle gas power plant in the Bhola District, Bridgin Power has launched a pilot mangrove restoration project – now expanded to 230 planted mangroves – to support natural coastal resilience against flooding and erosion while sequestering carbon and supporting biodiversity.

Meanwhile, a microcredit scheme offering interest-free loans has been deployed in the area, resulting in the average household income increasing by 19.8%.

Bridgin Power also reports 83% of project procurement has been sourced locally, and 158 skilled and semi-skilled jobs have been created, alongside a scholarship programme for 50 girls in education.

In a country highly vulnerable to climate change, Bridgin Power demonstrates how modern energy infrastructure can power development while strengthening community resilience.

Its impact is measured through Actis' proprietary Impact Scoring system, which projects the platform's score to nearly double from entry to exit.
