Zurich Insurance has reclaimed the Re/insurer of the year title at this year’s Sustainable Investment Awards, having previously won in 2022 and 2023.
Judges praised the company’s “impressive commitment to responsible investing,” highlighting its exposure to emerging markets and alignment with industry frameworks.
Particular recognition was given to Zurich’s investment in the Infrastructure Resilience Development Fund, which supports Guatemala’s power transmission system.
As of the end of 2025, Zurich’s $11 billion impact investment portfolio – which includes green, social and sustainability bonds, private debt infrastructure investments, and private equity commitments focused on areas such as financial inclusion and clean technology – had helped avoid 3.4 million metric tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions and improved the lives of 5.4 million people.
The environmental share of the impact investment portfolio, together with the Green-certified buildings, counts towards the company’s climate solutions investments, where the company has a 6% target as a percentage of total assets under management by 2030. At the end of 2025, this portfolio reached the size of $12.2 billion, primarily through the increase of green bonds and targeted private equity investments focused on pioneering circularity.
The interim 2030 climate targets are complemented by bilateral company engagements and asset manager as well emissions intensity reduction targets.
Judges described Zurich as a leader in impact measurement, citing its holistic integration, large-scale impact, and engagement strategy.
