ESG Scorecard

Brief description of the data offering

In February 2021, ISS ESG introducted ISS ESG Scorecards providing a standard methodological framework for covering asset classes that are out of scope such as private equity. These scorecards can be used by clients to collect the data for their specific universe of coverage.

Through its ESG Scorecard solution, ISS ESG offers an intuitive assessment tool which allows investors to conduct their own comprehensive ESG assessment in just a few steps. The Scorecard is based on a tried and tested ESG assessment methodology, ensuring high-quality and in-depth assessments.

The ESG Scorecard facilitates an industry-specific scoring of a company's ESG risk situation measured across all ESG dimensions. Standard questions and answer options allow for easy and intuitive assessments of private companies. The ESG Scorecard offers guidance for identifying company-specific exposure to business activities typical for the industry, as covered under the EU Taxonomy.

The ESG Scorecard Comprises:

  1. An Industry Risk Profile, which provides an overview and description of key sustainability risks
  2. Three standard scorecard elements covering Climate, Social, and Governance, addressing general sustainability risks and requirements
  3. An assessment tool for Industry-Specific Key Issues
  4. A classification of impact of products and services regarding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  5. Information on the relevance of the EU Taxonomy for SMEs

Based on the approach of the ISS ESG Corporate Rating, each Scorecard element is weighted to reflect the materiality of each topic. The overall score is a weighted score based on the score and weight of each element.
