Where and how do you source your data?
Most of our ESG data relies on public sources, such as the World Bank, IMF, and NGOs. A limited number of indicators are developed from data that is privately sourced (e.g. for energy, and/or financial information).
For our ESG-augmented credit assessment model, the data selection process is as follows: first, we retrieve all variables deemed important and/or that impact sovereign risk through academic literature and what could be done by the financial rating industry. We then test all these variables in our econometric framework in order to better capture the explanatory power and additional information of each variable. Finally, we retain the variables/indicators that have the most explanatory power considering our endogenous variable.
Who are the data users?
Our ESG and climate-related data is used by asset owners, asset managers, and academic institutions globally. Our data is used as inputs to enhance inhouse risk/pricing models, for reporting requirements, for asset allocation decisions and for the creation of innovative indexes such as the FTSE Climate Risk Adjusted World Government Bond Index.
