Guide to ESG data providers :: ESG Relevance Scores

Fitch Ratings - ESG Relevance Scores

What data do you provide?

Fitch Ratings’ ESG Relevance Scores provide greater transparency on which ESG issues are relevant to fundamental credit and where relevant, how material they were to the rating assigned, on an issuer-by-issuer basis. Fitch Ratings has published over 75,000 individual E, S or G scores for over 5,250 entities worldwide, spanning Emerging and Developed Markets and across both High Yield and Investment Grade. The scores cover every area of our practice - Corporates, Financial Institutions, Sovereigns, Public Finance, Infrastructure and Structured Finance. Scores are displayed in standardized, industry-specific templates, enabling quick and easy cross-comparison of entities and displaying clearly and transparently which ESG risk factors our analysts consider to be credit relevant to a sector.

Where and how do you source your data?

Fitch Ratings ESG Relevance scores are an integral part of our regular ratings analysis. Scoring is based on fourteen General Issue categories that align with the widely accepted classification standard published by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). Our credit analysts then identify sector-specific ESG credit issues that relate to these general issues and the specific rating criteria factors that capture them. This process provides a transparent disclosure of where in the credit rating the E, S or G factor was considered. On this basis, Fitch has created unique ESG templates for each of the 52 non-financial corporate sectors based on the five Environmental, five Social and four Governance general issues.
