Brief description of the data offering

Refinitiv, an LSEG business, offers one of the most comprehensive ESG data offerings in the industry, covering over 80% of global market cap, across more than 500 different ESG metrics, with history going back to 2002. ESG metrics comprise of ESG scores, raw metrics, standardized and analytics data. Our ESG universe consists of 11,000+ companies, covering dozens of major global and regional indices.

The ESG data, analytics and scores are updated weekly, with fully transparent and objective collection and scoring methodologies. ESG news and controversies are updated on a continuous basis as and when such events occur and get picked up by global media.

In addition to scores, analytics and raw metrics for companies, Refinitiv houses one of the largest databases of ESG/green bonds.

Refinitiv provides hundreds of other data sets which can be integrated with ESG content, such as M&A, Deals, Company Financials, Estimates, Ownership, etc.

Where and how do you source your data?

All company ESG data measures are sourced from publicly available sources, including Annual Reports, Sustainability Reports, Proxies, Company Websites, etc.  Refinitiv collects some data points from third party sources and NGO websites. ESG Controversies are captured from hundreds of top editorial sources such as Reuters, Associated Press, Financial Times, etc.

Powered by the market leading macro-economic time series database Datastream, Refinitiv ESG Country scores are designed to transparently and objectively measure a country’s relative performance across each of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  This data is sourced from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

Who are the data users?

The 20,000+ users of Refinitiv ESG data include asset owners, asset managers, wealth managers and advisers, investment banks, research brokers, corporates, academics, consultants, government agencies, exchanges, and media companies. We cover a wide spectrum of customers, geographies and use cases.

The integration of the ESG data on Refinitiv Eikon and Refinitiv Workspace allows for flexibility in use without incurring additional cost to source a separate ESG data provider. The objective data and transparent methodology allow users to create custom ratings based on mandates, values, and/or strategies.

What is the cost for your data offering?

Varies depending on the products, user requirements and the content segmentation.

What are the key attributes that differentiates the data you offer?

With our standardized ESG data points (500+) and analytics (70+) – for over 80% of global market cap based on publicly reported company data and 210 countries – we strive to be the industry standard database that reflects official company disclosure on ESG metrics. We believe that company disclosure and standards of reporting on these issues is critical for driving accurate investor information, public discourse, regulatory guidance.

We also believe that transparency is critical to driving positive outcomes at both a financial and social level. To this end – for the purposes of company scoring – we do not use, create, or collect data that is not disclosed or publicly available. As such, we can create a complete line of auditability all the way from documents (such as annual reports), to the company data points in our database, to company scores, to fund ratings which are based on robust fund holdings data.

@Refinitiv provides accurate, auditable, and transparent sustainability-related data and analytics alongside global company data, macroeconomics, multi-asset class pricing and terms and conditions to ensure you see the full picture.
