UK consults on biodiversity net gain metric

10 August 2022

The UK government has launched a consultation on a metric for biodiversity net gain – which calculates a site's current and future biodiversity value.

After the eight-week consultation, from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, the final version of the metric should be published "later this year".

Ensuring biodiversity net gain using the metric will be mandatory for some developments from November 2023.
