Environmental Finance's Bond Awards 2023

Investor of the year (asset manager): Amundi

Amundi's Fixed Income Platform has €48 billion ($52 billion) invested in green, social and sustainable bonds.

The Fixed Income Platform has €352 billion responsible investment assets under management, among which €37 billion are in green bonds and €11 billion in social and sustainable bonds.

In 2022, the Fixed Income Platform launched a new green strategy targeting European Corporates for investors looking for lower exposure to interest rates risks.

"Amundi Funds Euro Corporate Short Term Green Bond strategy provides a new tool to generate a positive environmental impact with lower risk compared to the global green bond market: the fund addresses specifically the corporate segment, a market that is expected to grow exponentially in the years to come, given the existential challenge that we are facing," said Amundi in its awards submission.

"One other feature of the fund is its limited duration exposure: usually, green projects are associated with high duration, owing to the length of the financed projects. This product focuses on shorter dated bonds, but also actively manages duration so that it never exceeds three years."

The platform also launched an additional green strategy for investors looking for green liquidity solutions and a net-zero strategy to allow investors to align their allocations to the low carbon transition.

Also in 2022, Amundi created ESG solutions with development banks, such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to develop new ESG bond markets and encourage issues classified as emerging market, high yield, private debt or structured credit to access sustainable transition financing.

One Bond Awards judge praised the asset manager for its "good collaboration with multilateral institutions and private financial institutions," while also noting Amundi's "sophisticated strategy and a variety of new products" in 2022.

Amaury D'OrsayThe team also published its inaugural annual impact report following the launch of the Amundi Social Bond fund in November 2020.

Amundi is an executive committee Member at the Green Bonds Principles and has participated in several Working Groups and has been co-chair the Social Bond Working Group since 2019.

Another Bond Awards judge said the asset manager was "in a good position to further help develop KPIs within the social bond universe".

"This award comes in recognition of Amundi's leading expertise in fixed income, particularly in the field of green and social bonds, true to our DNA which places sustainable investment at the heart of what we do. Thanks to our strong credentials, we are well-equipped to design investment solutions seeking to finance social or green projects with positive outcomes while striving to offer attractive returns for investors," commented Amaury D'Orsay, head of alpha fixed income at Amundi.
