Exclusively focusing on biodiversity BBVA Colombia issued a $70 million green bond targeting nature conservation in the country with backing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
It was the first bond in Latin America completely dedicated to biodiversity related projects.
Those projects are grouped under six different themes; productive land use and sustainable agriculture, freshwater and sustainable marine protection, nature-based solutions, waste and plastic management, forestry and plantations, tourism and ecotourism services.
"I really like the unique emphasis and structure of this bond. The implication of several international parties and the clear robustness of its framework is a very obvious strength," said one Environmental Finance Awards judge.
"A pioneer green bond supporting biodiversity and local communities. I like the active involvement of many stakeholders and international partners," added another.
