IMPACT Investment Awards 2025

Award for impact reporting: Ørsted

Danish offshore wind company Ørsted scooped the impact reporting award for its reporting following its position as the world's first energy company to issue a blue bond.

Ørsted raised €100 million ($116 million) through a private placement blue bond in June 2023. Although the full impact report was shared exclusively with the bondholders, a summarised version was published in June 2025.

The report demonstrated advanced practice in impact reporting, drawing on best practice guidance on blue finance and biodiversity finance impact metrics in line with the IFC Blue Finance Guidelines. It distinguished itself through transparent and highly informative reporting that clearly presents the value and outcomes of its impact investments.

One Environmental Finance Impact Investment Awards judge described it as "really impressive" and praised it as "outstanding" with "huge amounts of detail across many different impacts, with both qualitative and quantitative elements."

The report covers a wide range of active projects, the majority with measurable impact, including both quantitative and qualitative reporting through case studies.

Amongst these, Ørsted identified 22 marine ecosystem restoration projects, with allocated blue bond proceeds, alongside quantitative impact metrics.

A notable example referenced in the report is the piloted testing of a patented jetting technology in Germany, which achieved a 34-decibel reduction in underwater noise compared with conventional piling, a noise reduction of over 99%. The report suggests that such developments could mark a shift in how offshore wind foundations are installed.
