Evercity has been awarded impact project/investment of the year – infrastructure at this year's IMPACT Investment Awards for its 'Pearl Carbon Platform', which marks Africa's 'first' sovereign digital carbon origination infrastructure.
The platform provides a sovereign, end-to-end digital infrastructure supporting the origination, assessment, issuance and monitoring of carbon and green assets, including forward contracts and other instruments
Evercity, a Berlin and Abu Dhabi-based climate finance technology company, designed the platform collaboratively with the Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat under the Office of the President of Uganda. The tool was presented at NY Climate Week and officially launched at COP 30 and provides Uganda with the ability to "control, certify and scale" its national carbon pipeline via blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV), enabling data sovereignty, transparency, and efficiency on the origination, tracking, and monetisation of carbon assets.
It starts with 10 flagship projects, spanning forestry, agriculture, and energy, intended to generate "millions of tonnes" of carbon credits over their lifetime, whilst providing positive biodiversity benefits and improving rural livelihoods.
Earlier this year, Uganda adopted its 'Climate Change Mechanisms Regulations' and published its green taxonomy to align with global standards.
Its launch has had a 'transformative' impact on climate adaptation and on unlocking international investment for forestry, agriculture, and energy projects in Uganda, its submission claimed, and has scaling potential for other countries following the digital public infrastructure agenda highlighted by the COP30 Brazilian Presidency.
