Dutch lender ING secured the Large enterprise of the year award after being praised for its "industry-leading sustainability integration" and consistent climate commitments.
One Sustainable Company Awards judge praised the firm for "sticking to their climate commitments when other banks are backtracking".
Meanwhile, another highlighted that ING continues to demonstrate "industry-leading sustainability integration" through its lending, investment, and risk processes as well as "robust" and diverse sustainability disclosures.
In particular, ING's "pioneering" Terra approach was hailed as a "standout in the global banking sector". The Terra approach provides clear decarbonisation models for key sectors, which ING uses to engage and steer the most carbon-intensive parts of its loan book towards net zero by 2050.
ING has already developed Terra scenarios for the power generation, automotive, shipping, dairy, aviation, steel, aluminium, cement, and real estate sectors. Meanwhile, it has extended its oil and gas sector coverage to not only include upstream but also mid- and downstream value chains.
