Sustainable Investment Awards 2025

Renewables fund of the year: NextEnergy Solar Fund

NextEnergy Solar Fund (NESF) has committed to no conversion of natural ecosystems in its direct operations by 2025, extending this to its supply chains by 2030, in its Approach to Nature, which was launched last year.

This approach also includes nature targets aligned with the Taskforce on Nature Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and Science-Based Targets Network (SBTN).

One Environmental Finance Awards judge complemented NESF for its "integration of nature into renewable energy and alignment to industry recognised frameworks".

Another added it has "excellent ambition [such as] the first renewable investment company to embed nature, responsible land use plans, supply chain goals and impact".

NESF is classified as an Article 9 fund under the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), ensuring full alignment with the EU Taxonomy. According to NESF, it has a capacity of 937MW, enough to power approximately 254,000 UK homes for one year, as of 31 March 2025.
