Low-Hanging Plumes: An Investor's Guide to Methane was highly commended by the Sustainable Investment Awards judges and described as a "must-read for newcomers to this issue."

The First Sentier MUFG Sustainable Investment Institute concluded from its analysis with Discern Sustainability that cuts to methane in the fossil fuel sector could deliver the same temperature reduction as eliminating all global carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from heavy industry. It also found that there was limited practical advice for investors to tackle this issue.

The paper aims to create a practical guide for institutional investors across the four main anthropogenic methane sources: oil and gas, coal mining, agriculture and waste.

Incorporating climate science, regulation, sector economics, corporate practice, monitoring technology and investor action, the report offers practical guidance including investor cheat sheets alongside recommendations for stakeholder engagement with corporates, financial institutions and policymakers and regulatory support.

Judges commented on the thought leadership as a "great research piece providing easy-to-follow arguments around the impacts and prevalence of methane globally."
