White Paper 2 - an examination of the correlation between ESG disclosure rating and sustainable bond issuance in emerging markets

This is the second white paper in a three-part series examining the potential correlation between ESG disclosure ratings and sustainable bond issuance among emerging market entities. The first white paper (published in October 2023) introduces the themes and analysis of sustainable bond issuance and ESG disclosure regulations, taxonomies, and principles in emerging market countries.

This white paper analyses how ESG disclosure ratings, the number of ESG data points disclosed and overall ESG scores relate to sustainable bond issuance among emerging market entities, sectors, and countries (in aggregate).

The correlation between ESG disclosure and sustainable bond issuance is assessed at a macro level, examining simple linear regression between ESG disclosure scores and requirements and sustainable bond issuance in emerging markets.

The paper will also examine a selection of emerging market countries in detail to analyse the relationship between ESG disclosure requirements and sustainable bond issuance over time.
