Brief description of the data offering

Morningstar Sustainalytics’ Climate Transition Toolkit provides investors with structured, transition‑focused climate data and analytics to assess company alignment with the global low‑carbon transition. The offering combines high‑level indicators such as Implied Temperature Rise, transition‑related Value‑at‑Risk and disclosure sufficiency, with granular company‑level metrics covering emissions (Scopes 1–3), green revenues and capex, fossil fuel involvement, and transition management practices. Designed to support research, portfolio construction, engagement, and regulatory reporting, the toolkit enables investors to evaluate both climate ambition and real‑world action across sectors and geographies. The Toolkit provides both top-line signals and underlying data and research, so investors can select from a variety of data signals and insights based on their needs.

Where and how do you source your data?

The data source varies depending on the data point. We leverage reported emissions wherever available or use internal estimation models. For the data used in management indicators, we use publicly available data sources such as company reporting. Data collection is supported by AI-enabled data mining, supplemented strongly by human research and quality control.  Climate scenarios are sourced from the IEA and IPR, with internally developed downscaling methodologies applied. Supporting investment alignment data (activity-level, forward-looking capex and production data) is collected by Veridion. Key financial data is sourced from Morningstar’s financial report databases.
