Brief description of the data offering

Minerva Analytics (Minerva) is a global expert in stewardship solutions with nearly 30 years of experience in collecting, consolidating, cleaning, analysing, coordinating, and distributing sustainability governance data. For over a decade, Minerva has pioneered the integration of sustainability governance factors (which include environmental and social issues) in its research.

The Minerva ESG Nexus data model is an innovative framework that captures the most critical and material aspects of ESG, corporate governance ,and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) indicators, including ESG controversies.

The Minerva SDG Alignment and Impact Solution is designed to assess and strengthen the alignment of investment portfolios with the UN SDGs. By focusing on sector-specific impacts across all 17 SDGs, the solution equips asset stewards with clear, actionable insights into how their investments contribute to or detract from global sustainability targets.

First, portfolio holdings are associated with one or more SDGs based on product and sector exposure. They are then assessed against an extensive and consistent set of positive and negative SDG Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including UN Global Compact controversies.

A narrative report is then generated, highlighting material issues and opportunities.

At the heart of the solution is the SDG/Sector Impact Heatmap, a dynamic visual tool that maps economic sectors against individual SDGs. This heatmap reveals the current alignment status of each sector, highlighting areas of strong performance, existing gaps, and untapped opportunities for positive transformation. Accompanying the heatmap is a detailed narrative report that provides contextual analysis, interpretations of key findings, and sector-specific commentary to support strategic decision-making.

Beyond visualisation, the solution facilitates a comprehensive review of current investment strategies and asset allocations through the SDG lens. This analysis helps identify material sustainability risks, such as environmental harms, social inequities, or governance vulnerabilities, as well as emerging opportunities to generate positive impact, enhance long-term resilience, and unlock sustainable value.

Investors also benefit from Minerva’s open architecture framework, which allows us to accommodate client-requested/generated SDG mapping considerations. By leveraging the inherent strengths and distinctions of various SDG approaches, investors can pursue a "best in class" approach for optimal results.

Through this integrated approach, Minerva’s SDG Alignment and Impact Solution empowers asset stewards to align their portfolios with global development goals, enabling responsible and forward-looking investment strategies that support a more sustainable and equitable future.

The audit and mapping exercise aims to identify investment risks and opportunities within the Fund's assets related to the transition to sustainability and a low-carbon economy, with a focus on specific SDGs. Findings can also inform fund disclosure, engagement, and stewardship priorities.

Where and how do you source your data?

Company-specific ESG information is available from the Minerva database to support stewardship actions. Minerva has a strong reputation for high-quality data, which is prepared by seasoned and highly qualified analysts, not merely machine algorithms. Instead of questionnaires, Minerva uses public corporate disclosures to measure the extent to which corporate management is managing ESG risks and opportunities.

Minerva analyses over 90% of the world’s listed equity markets by value. Our robust research and analysis process results in over 2,000 individual data points on each company.

Besides company data, other sources include:

  • Analysis of policies
  • Analysis of  mandates
  • Analysis of company minutes
  • Interview relevant staff
  • Fund and company ratings
