Brief description of the data offering
The Minerva iClima Climate Mitigation Index is built on a clear and powerful premise: the most effective way to reduce CO₂ equivalent (CO2e) emissions is to prevent them from being emitted in the first place. Its methodology is designed to create an equity index aligned with the global decarbonisation agenda, giving investors access to companies at the forefront of climate mitigation.
The methodology focuses on companies whose products and services displace higher-emission alternatives, enabling CO2e avoidance. A shift from traditional ‘low-carbon’ approaches that primarily emphasise a company’s own operational emissions reductions. By focusing on solution providers, the strategy addresses a critical market opportunity and helps investors identify businesses with the potential to drive meaningful, system-level emissions reduction.
At the core of this approach is the Minerva iClima taxonomy, which classifies companies across the climate sector and assesses their green and brown revenues alongside ESG norms screening and controversial products analysis. This robust framework is designed to identify companies with significant decarbonisation potential and to spotlight those best positioned to benefit from the accelerating transition to a low-carbon economy.
To quantify impact, the CO2e avoidance potential of each company’s products and services can be analysed where data is available. This makes it possible to identify and evaluate companies delivering climate solutions with materially lower greenhouse gas outputs than incumbent alternatives. In turn, the methodology provides a robust, forward-looking metric for climate impact assessment, helping investors compare company-level contributions against broader global CO2e reduction needs.
Alongside the Mitigation Strategy, Minerva offers a broader suite of index strategies aligned with five additional thematic pillars of climate action, giving investors diversified access to some of the most important areas of the climate transition:
Circular economy
- Climate adaptation
- Smart energy
- Early-stage revenues
- Long-duration energy storage
