Brief description of the data offering
Iceberg Data Lab’s Science-Based 2°C Alignment (SB2A) Metric measures an issuer’s alignment with the Paris Agreement based on forward-looking carbon intensity trajectories.
SB2A considers historical emissions trends and decarbonization targets at the company level, as well as sector-specific climate scenarios (SBTi, IEA, etc.) mapped to the company's activities.
Our methodology goes beyond the 10 reference trajectories of the SBTi, using 248 reference trajectories across 34 sectors, increasing the accuracy and granularity of a company’s alignment.
SB2A methodology follows four steps:
- Evaluation of the issuer’s historical and projected carbon intensity, considering targets/pledges, including SBTi, ACT or equivalent certifications;
- Comparison of the issuer’s trajectory with 1.5°C and 2°C sectoral benchmarks;
- Calculation of the issuer’s carbon budget overshoot or undershoot;
- Translation of the issuer’s carbon budget into an equivalent temperature rise by 2100.
Where and how do you source your data?
Company-reported data and sustainability reports, when available and reliable. If company data is not available or incomplete, IDL models the data using sector-, commodity-, and geography-specific parameters.
Open-source databases provided by governments, central banks, and scientific organizations.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) databases and financial/environmental datasets for product-level impacts.
Physical flows and input-output models (such as our proprietary Wunderpus model) to estimate emissions through the entire value chain, covering scopes 1, 2, and 3 for high granularity and sector comparability.
Independent scientific studies and internationally recognized frameworks (e.g., IPCC, IEA, SBTi, TNFD, PBAF) for methodologies and benchmark data.
