Brief description of the data offering
We provide a qualitative assessment of GHG and methane-specific emissions reduction targets of 30 of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, using Carbon Tracker's Hallmarks of Paris-Aligned Emissions Targets.
We evaluate the scope, timeframe, asset/operational coverage, and size of emissions reduction targets for an indication of potential alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement or exposure to energy transition risks.
We also provide an additional assessment of companies’ strategies for achieving these targets, based on planned reliance on carbon capture and storage (CCS), nature-based solutions (NBS), and asset divestment.
This dataset is the focus of our Absolute Impact series and is intended for asset owners, asset managers, and sustainability and stewardship analysts.
It feeds into Carbon Tracker’s aggregate assessment of transition risks and Paris alignment, alongside other metrics such as capital expenditure options, recent project sanctions, and executive remuneration.
