Brief description of the data offering

CDP’s Forests Dataset is the world’s most comprehensive standardised dataset on corporate deforestation risk management. It provides company-reported, board-signed disclosures across seven key deforestation-linked soft commodities: palm oil, timber products, cattle products, soy, natural rubber, cocoa and coffee and additionally covers mineral and coal extraction where relevant to land-use and deforestation risk.

The dataset includes a comprehensive suite of qualitative and quantitative land-use indicators, including commodity-level reporting across multiple deforestation-risk commodities, allowing companies to disclose exposure at a granular level across individual supply chains.

It captures deforestation-related risks and opportunities across operations and value chains, including reported financial impacts where available, alongside corporate commitments, policies and compliance mechanisms such as no-deforestation commitments, implementation approaches and supplier requirements.

It also includes supply chain traceability and certification data, including disclosure of certification schemes and chain-of-custody models, as well as quantitative production and consumption volumes of at-risk commodities. This includes country or region of origin and the proportion of revenue exposed to deforestation-linked commodities.
Together, these disclosures provide a detailed view of land-use risk exposure, progress and gaps across commodities, geographies and corporate supply chains.

Where and how do you source your data?

Data is sourced directly from thousands of company responses to CDP’s Forests questionnaire, collected through CDP’s global disclosure platform. Companies report via standardised, commodity-specific modules designed to capture the distinct sourcing practices, traceability challenges and risk profiles associated with deforestation-linked supply chains.

Responses are subject to validation and consistency checks to ensure comparability across commodities, regions and reporting entities.
