What data do you provide?

The Water Risk Filter provides basin water risk data for physical, regulatory and reputational water risk issues. These are a combination of environmental, social and governance data for basins and countries, that inform asset-level risk exposure as well as country rankings. The three risk categories (physical, regulatory and reputational) are each disaggregated into four sub-categories (Physical: scarcity, flooding, quality, ecosystem service loss; Regulatory: Laws & policies, institutions & governance, management instruments, infrastructure & finance; Reputational: cultural importance, biodiversity importance, media scrutiny, trust & conflict). This creates for a total of 32 different data layers focused on different aspects of water risk.

Additionally, the Water Risk Filter also provides data on, and a tool to guide, customized contextual water stewardship responses.

Where and how do you source your data?

Data are sourced largely from third party, peer-reviewed data sources and converted into 5 level risk rating scores for each of the 32 different risk data layers. The full information on the data sources used by the Water Risk Filter may be found here:

Who are the data users?

The Water Risk Filter is used primarily by Global 2000 companies (e.g., H&M, Danone, Carlsberg, etc.) and select financial institutions (e.g., DEG, Sanlam, etc.), however data from the tool are also increasingly being drawn into other service providers in the ESG space. They draw upon the data to evaluate water risk exposure, and to help inform appropriate risk mitigation responses. These users are often supported by consultancies and/or non-profit partners to help them navigate their water risk exposure and response challenges.

What is the cost for your data offering?

The Water Risk Filter is freely accessible. Note that data from the Water Risk Filter is not permitted to be re-distributed or re-created without permission of the original owners of the data.
