Brief description of the data offering

SDI Asset Owner Platform provides a standard methodology to objectively assess the contribution of institutional investors’ portfolios to the UN SDGs. So far, over 8,700 entities or classified, equivalent to approximately 12,000 listings.

The SDGs and SDG sub-goals have been translated into a taxonomy of product categories that positively contribute to the SDGs. This taxonomy has been operationalized by defining specific rules and guidance. When evaluating a company, the starting point is the classification of its products and services according to the SDI taxonomy. Then the size of the positive contribution is calculated from the revenues (sales) associated with these solutions. The SDI AOP has been developed by APG, AustralianSuper, BCI and PGGM.

Where and how do you source your data?

Entis is the data science provider that translates the SDI taxonomy and guidance into the actual classification using data from companies’ annual and financial reports, investor presentations, websites, and product pages. Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, combined with human validation, provide scale and continuous improvement to the SDI dataset.

Companies are classified based on revenues derived from solutions as ‘majority SDI’, ‘decisive SDI’ or ‘non-SDI’. This is the first step towards assessing companies’ real-world contributions to the SDGs. Future developments include assessments of actual outputs, outcomes and impacts of that contribution.

What is the cost for your data offering?

License fees are based on the usage of the data, for example mandates, passive funds, benchmarks, portfolio construction, structured products. Qontigo is the distributor of the SDI data and provides various subscriber support services.
