Brief description of the data offering
The Carbon Trust is a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and has worked with over 100 companies to set science-based targets and to align with 1.5 degrees. We have extensive experience in supporting companies on their sustainability journey, including organisational and value chain footprinting, Scope 3 category 15, Science-Based Target- Setting, and Net Zero advice and implementation support.

Where and how do you source your data?
The Carbon Trust has a customised financed emissions model used to calculate the carbon footprint of financial institutions’ portfolio and uses actual emissions data for calculations. Where actual data is not available, we use a selection of free-access and license-based data from academic, financial, and governmental sources as secondary data sources.
Guided by the GHG protocol and PCAF global standards, we work with our sector experts (e.g. in energy, forestry, real estate, infrastructure, and green finance) to deliver a baseline footprint of each asset, reflecting industry best-practice.
For science-based target-setting, we review the relevant SBTi sector guidance and begin the SBT modelling according to this guidance. Pathways are set on the baseline footprint using growth projections agreed with the client.
