Brief description of the data offering
ISS ESG’s Norm-Based Engagement Solution helps investors across markets to jointly engage with companies regarding their ESG risk and performance in a cost-efficient manner.
Our ESG experts facilitate investor dialogue with approximately 100 listed companies annually identified under Norm-Based Research as failing to prevent or address social and environmental controversies in line with established standards for Responsible Business Conduct.
Through Norm-Based Engagement, investors have the ability to voice their concerns with companies that fail to respect established norms (RED flagged) and companies that face credible allegations (AMBER flagged), as identified by ISS ESG’s team of analysts and request transparency regarding risk mitigation.
ISS ESG’s Engagement Tool provides a user-friendly interface that enables investors to:
- View proposed engagement topics for selected RED and AMBER flagged companies for the coming quarter
- Opt-in to or opt-out of proposed engagements
- Channel inquiries and requests for improved disclosure by RED and AMBER flagged companies through ISS ESG
- View the engagement status for each company
- Filter and download data and detailed information related to each engagement
- Download quarterly and annual reports and view historic data for previous engagements
Where and how do you source your data?
Companies considered for inclusion to the Norm-Based Engagement process are sourced based on factors surrounding ISS ESG’s Norm-Based Research. ISS ESG carries out extensive dialogue with companies and expert stakeholders – governmental or inter-governmental bodies, non-governmental organizations, academic organisations – to validate facts relevant to the incident or controversy and to the company’s response to it. Only companies that fail to respond to an incident in line with established norms and standards are subject to engagement.
