Free webinar: Environmental Finance review of Q2 sustainable bond market

Environmental Finance will host a free webinar this week to review the 2021 second quarter sustainable bond issuance trends after another period of strong performance.

The free session – on 15 July at 15:00 BST/10:00 ET – will be the first of a regular quarterly overview of the green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bond market using figures from the Environmental Finance Bond Database.

The Environmental Finance bond team will provide an overview of some of the fascinating trends and themes identified in the last three months – a period which saw more than $250 billion raised through the sustainable fixed-income instruments.

Data strategist Ben Smith will kick-off with a review of the key trends during the period alongside quarterly and annual comparative figures, before turning over to a more in-depth commentary on the interesting market themes with assistant editor Ahren Lester – including the exciting growth of sustainability-linked bonds. The session will also be open to audience questions.

The sustainable bond market has accelerated in recent months, helped by the growing momentum behind the social, sustainability and sustainability-linked labels supporting the ongoing strength of the green bond market. Indeed, June 2021 saw cumulative issuance of sustainable bonds pass the $1.75 trillion milestone less than a year after the total issuance from the market – inaugurated in 2007 – passed the $1 trillion landmark.

Launched in 2016, the Environmental Finance Bond Database provides universal coverage of all sustainable bonds issued since 2007. It now lists almost 10,000 bonds, with a plethora of granular data and accompanying documents. The database – which was recently updated to include greater sector granularity, and will receive a more significant platform upgrade later this year – also incorporates data for the sustainable loans market.
